Genus Emplectonema

Monostiliferous hoplonemerteans with transverse but often indistinct cephalic furrows; with numerous small eyes; rhynchocoel restricted to the anterior half of the body, with the wall composed of separate circular and longitudinal muscle layers; proboscis short, slender; dermis variably developed; body wall musculature, especially longitudinal layer, well developed but without diagonal zone; strong dorsoventral musculature present in head; frontal organ present or absent; cephalic glands well developed, sometimes reaching to or beyond cerebral ganglia; cerebral sensory organs either large and close to anterior margins of cerebral ganglia or small and far in front of brain lobes; nervous system with neither neurochords nor neurochord cells, without accessory lateral nerve; blood vascular system with three longitudinal vessels, mid-dorsal vessel with a single vascular plug; excretory system located in the region between the mid-brain and foregut; intestinal caecum absent or very short, but two anterolateral diverticula present; sexes separate, gonads small and numerous.
