Palaeonemerteans with two principal body wall muscle layers (outer circular, inner longitudinal) reaching the full length of the body, but with additional layers present anteriorly consisting of an outer longitudinal zone between the epidermis and outer circular muscles, a diagonal layer between the outer circular and inner longitudinal musculature, and an inner circular layer adjacent to the foregut and anterior rhynchocoel; anterior epidermis with an intra-epithelial muscle fibre network; cerebral ganglia and anterior portions of lateral nerve cords located outside the outer circular musculature, but lateral nerves running among inner longitudinal muscle fibres in intestinal regions; nervous system with neurochord cells in cerebral ganglia and neurochord fibres in lateral nerve cords; proboscis with two (outer circular, inner longitudinal) or three (outer and inner circular, middle longitudinal) muscle layers; blood vascular system with six post-cerebral vessels in foregut region, comprising paired main lateral, lateral rhynchocoel and rhynchocoelic villar vessels; intestine with lateral diverticula; eyes and cerebral sensory organs absent, but dorsal surface of the head with a single median row of sensory ciliated pits; sexes separate.
