Description:
Up to 20 cm long. The body is threadlike when extended. The head is rounded in the front, flattened and slightly enlarged behind the tip. The body is mostly cylindrical, posterior end flattened. The head and anterior part are whitish in colour, whereas the posterior parts appear pale buff but terminate in a translucent pointed tail. No cephalic grooves or eyes. Superficially this species resembles Tubulanus linearis , but it lacks cerebral organs.
Habitat:
In sand near the low water level, among the tubes of the polychaete Lanice .
Distribution:
In the British Isles recorded from Southport and St. Andrews.
