Description:
This is an inadequately described form and regarded by some authors as a colour variation of Tetrastemma candidum rather than as a distinct species.
Tetrastemma helvolum is up to 20 mm long but less than 1 mm wide. The body is bluntly pointed at its posterior end and a bright pale honey-yellow colour apart from the paler yellowish head. Characteristically at the tip of the head, between the anterior pair of eyes, and in the anal region dense accumulations of gland cells appear as conspicuous shining whitish masses (T. helvolum).
Habitat:
Can be dredged from 4-80 m depth from coralline, muddy, shelly or sandy sediments or amongst algae.
Distribution:
Records from the British Isles and the Mediterranean.
